Its been a year since the inception of the COVID-19 and vaccines are being rushed out to the world quicker than can be administered. With a shortage of vaccines and waitlists, there is concern about how long it will take for these vaccines to reach heard immunity within the population. Heard immunity is when a certain proportion of the population has been vaccinated or immune to interrupt the transmission to other individuals. The Mayo Clinic estimates this percentage of the population could be as high as 94% for proper effectiveness. Taking the 2020 population estimate of 331 million in the United States, this means heard immunity will need to comprise of more than 311 million individuals vaccinated or immune in the US alone. As of February 1st, 2021, the United States has successfully administered 26 million first-time doses in just under 2 months. As you can see, the United States is currently near a 7.8% vaccination rate for and this is a growing concern regarding the efficacy, mutations, distribution, and timeline of the efforts for vaccinating COVID-19.
Copley made expansive efforts to track the COVID-19 outbreak by daily cases, deaths, and recoveries to find correlations in unemployment claims, weather pollution, and stock market information. Now, we believe the focus of this pandemic is on the upswing and have directed our focus to tracking the Vaccinations in the United States. By using data from Our World in Data’s GitHub repository, the Copley Consulting Group has constructed a web application that tracks daily vaccinations performed, issued, and doses used in respect to population density.
The goal of the Qlik Sense application is to provide a real-time (daily refresh), interactive, and visually aesthetic way of consuming the data that exists in the wild. At Copley we strive to convey messages in a way that would enhance data transparency and literacy for all during this time of the pandemic. Having the most up-to-date and accurate data can be accomplished with Qlik. This data is being provided with the hope that people will gain deeper and meaningful insight as to the challenges we face and provide some degree of reassurance as we move towards controlling and hopefully eradicating this virus. We will continue to enhance the application as we evaluate new data sources as we work to provide you with updates as we progress and continue to support our community.
